Celebrate Lunar New Year at MCC!

Please share with students:

This is the Year of the Snake!  Lunar New Year falls on Wednesday, Jan 29, 2025. Lunar New Year is now a K through 12 state holiday so school children throughout our state have this day off of school.  Please consider our parenting students' schedules on this day.

To observe Lunar New Year at MCC, we will celebrate with two events!

First Event: Friday, January 31, at Noon in the atrium

  • Performance by SUNY Buffalo Professor of Music Practice, Sungmin Shin. His music selection is titled Generation One - Music of Immigration

Description: Composer and performer Sungmin Shin explores a wide range of styles, genres and idioms, which is a culmination of the immigrant experience. The core theme of the program deals with identity and authenticity as an Asian American performing artist living in the United States through the lens of the guitar. “Generation One” consists of all newly composed music for the solo guitar including works for the classical and electric guitars. This genre-bending program lives without borders and draws from Brahms to Debussy, King Crimson to Steve Reich, Jobim to Villa-Lobos, Seo Taiji to Stevie Wonder, and more!

Second EventSaturday, February 8, from 1 pm to 4 pm in the Flynn Campus Center

The Lunar New Year Celebration on campus includes a karaoke competition, performances, food and art vendors, community organization tables, art and activities for children.
